In this project, I have incorporated a wooden fence around the perimeter walls of the property. This addition not only increases the height, making it more difficult to climb over, but also adds visual interest to the concrete walls. The fence allows sunlight to pass through while providing additional protection from the wind, and serves as a suitable support for climbing plants.
I have introduced large flower beds surrounding both the property and the house. Out of the seven flower beds, four are raised beds. This combination has allowed me to create varying dimensions and dynamics within the garden. The plants chosen for these raised beds include trees, shrubs, and perennials, providing shade, shelter for birds and insects, and effectively blocking strong winds.
To create a more symmetrical space, I have decided to connect the garage to the house. This arrangement also divides the property into two areas, with an entrance/driveway area on one side and a tranquil recreational area on the other.
The new driveway area is spacious and flat, constructed with concrete panels and interspersed with grass. It features a circular plant arrangement in the centre.
In the backyard, the concrete terrace is accompanied by a circular seating area made from recycled railway sleepers, as well as a pathway leading to the garden shed. I have chosen concrete as the primary paving material to balance the design, as the rest of the elements already offer significant visual interest. Alternating paving materials could potentially overwhelm the eye. The design incorporates a variety of captivating plants and compositions, complemented by simple hard materials such as concrete paving, wooden railway sleepers, and steel for planters and flower beds.
On the left side of the backyard, I have designed a tranquil area with raised beds filled with plants and modern statues that double as lanterns in the evening. Additionally, I have included a water feature that serves as a watering source for the surrounding plants, as well as three more raised beds for growing vegetables and herbs.
On the right side, I have created a social area featuring a large circular seating arrangement. Within this section, I have included another seating area with a fire pit. This space is sheltered from the wind by a curved wooden wall. On the opposite side of this wall, I have planned to incorporate a stunning stainless-steel fountain by David Harper.
